How do I convert metres to feet and inches?
Multiply metres by 3.2808 for decimal feet, then turn the fraction into inches (multiply by 12). This tool does both and rounds to the nearest inch - 2.44 m reads as 8 ft 0 in.
Why do UK merchants still quote 2.4 m as 8 x 4?
Sheet goods keep their pre-metric nominal names. A "2440 x 1220" sheet is the metric cut of the old 8 x 4 ft sheet - the converter makes the equivalence obvious.
