How it works

A standard UK brick (215 x 65 mm + 10 mm joints) lays 60/m2 in a half-brick skin; a 440 x 215 block lays 10/m2. Add 5-10% wastage and roughly 30 kg of dry mortar mix per m2 of brickwork.

Frequently asked questions

How many bricks per square metre?

60 for a single (half-brick) skin with standard 10 mm joints; 120 for a solid one-brick wall. Metric blocks: 10 per m2.

How much mortar per m2 of bricks?

Roughly 30 kg of dry mix per m2 of half-brick wall - a little over one 25 kg bag. Blockwork uses about a third of that.
